Cirrus Rolls Over (June 26)

Cirrus rolled over for the first time on June 26th (4 months, 10 days old).  It was slightly gravity assisted, as he rolled from his back to his belly off the edge of a thick sheepskin mat.  But, with just a few days practice, he was rolling on flat surfaces.

Cirrus is quite pleased with his accomplishment of rolling over.
Cirrus is not so sure about his fate if Cadel re-enacts the roll.

Camping and Other Adventures (late June)

Cirrus spent his first night in a tent on the Summer Solstice.  We opted for camping out during an overnight trip to Tuckaway (the Cox family farm).  Cirrus enjoyed being snuggled up in a sleeping bag.  It was our first night of camping with all three kids and in hindsight, choosing to camp on the solstice with a nearly full moon was not among our best decisions...let's just say Cadel and Senja followed the pattern of the sun - setting late and rising early.
Cirrus continues to be very generous with his smiles.  It doesn't take much to elicit a grin from this little fella.
June brought with it piles of fresh vegetables.  Don't worry Cirrus, this plate is for Papa!
Cadel and Senja gaze intently as they wait for the train at the Ecotarium Museum in Worcester, MA.

Cirrus's First Plane Trip (June 14-16)

Cirrus celebrated his 4 month birthday in North Carolina.  Cirrus, Stacey, and Justin traveled to North Carolina for a friend's wedding (Cadel and Senja had a fun weekend in Connecticut with Oma and Gimpa Luoma).  Cirrus was a grand little traveler.  He looks out at a rainy runway as we depart from New Hampshire.
Stacey got to show Justin and Cirrus her old stomping grounds from her time as a graduate student at Duke and we got to see several good friends.  The wedding was at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science and we got to see several of the exhibits during the reception.  Here is Justin showing Cirrus a cauldron of clouds...as you can see Cirrus is thrilled with this lesson!
Cirrus was a bit more alert during the next days hike along the Eno River.

Cadel's 5th Birthday (June 7)

On June 7th Cadel celebrated his 5th Birthday.
He got to extend the celebration over several days, beginning on the 5th where he was "the celebrated one" at school.  He made a crown of gold (which he wore everyday and everywhere for the whole week) and there was a lovely celebration during which Justin and I shared stories and pictures about Cadel from each of his first five years.  He then had our co-housing community sing to him at our weekly community dinner on the 6th.

On the 7th, poor little child of ours, had to work for his gift.  We hid "presents" all over the house which he found throughout the day.  The "presents" were all pieces of wood, which Justin and Cadel then built into a workbench!  Cadel was thrilled.
On Saturday the 8th we had a fun gathering of friends join us for a "Hike for the Cupcakes".  We hiked to a waterfall, enjoying the scenery and birthday cupcakes.
Cadel and Senja take in the view.
Cadel is served up the first cupcake.
